A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND SALUTE THE PreviousRIVER HILLS/LAKE WYLIE LIONSNext CLUB FOR ITS FINE RECORD OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO CONGRATULATE THE CLUB AT THE CELEBRATION OF ITS FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, during 2015, the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club is celebrating its fortieth anniversary, and its many years of outstanding community service make the club eminently worthy of honor on this occasion; and

Whereas, part of Lions Club International, the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club is one of forty-six thousand clubs with more than 1.4 million members, making the organization the world's largest service-club organization; and

Whereas, club members do whatever is needed to help their local communities, as when they assist children who need eyeglasses and seniors who need groceries; and

Whereas, chartered in 1975, since its inception the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club has been a unique force in the Lake Wylie and Clover communities as one of the largest and most effective Lions Clubs in the State of South Carolina. Currently led by its new president, Len Fleet, the club's one hundred sixty-five members raise approximately one hundred thousand dollars annually, all of which goes to over thirty charities. To commemorate its four decades of service, the club hosted a special fortieth-anniversary celebration on Tuesday, September 1, 2015; and

Whereas, among its numerous achievements, the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club established the River Hills Rescue Squad, the only ambulance service for its rural community in the 1970s and early 1980s and still the club's largest single charitable cause. The club also established the Good Neighbor Pantry, which ultimately became the Clover Area Assistance Center, to which club members continue to contribute much time and financial support. The club helped establish a similar program in York, as well; and

Whereas, the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club created a partnership with Clover Schools that led to the establishment of Roaring Readers, the giving of books to elementary school children, including a Lions' Roaring Readers room. Other outgrowths of this partnership are an annual four-year scholarship program, the Leo Club, Mentoring & Lunch Buddies Program, Clover Choraliers, and International Youth Exchange Program (which initiated a travel scholarship). The Lions also established a foundation to receive and distribute bequests, with proceeds returning to the community. Further, the Lions have been honored by the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind, which named its River Hills Lions Art Room in honor of the club; and

Whereas, one of the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services' largest contributors, the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club has undertaken Kidsight as its newest project. Members purchased two cameras to screen children of at least six months for six different eye issues that can be corrected if caught in time. This service is given in addition to the collection of used eyeglasses and payment for both new glasses and hearing aids as needed; and

Whereas, all these services to its community are only a partial list of those rendered by the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and salute the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie LionsNext Club for its fine record of service to the community and congratulate the club at the celebration of its fortieth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the PreviousRiver Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club.
